Executive Director – Florida Flute Association

The Florida Flute Association seeks an Executive Director to lead operations, membership engagement, and annual programming, including a major convention.

This role oversees financial management, communications, membership systems, and event coordination while working closely with board leadership, artists, educators, and industry partners.

The ideal candidate will bring a background in arts administration, music, or nonprofit leadership, along with the ability to articulate a vision for growth, strengthen membership recruitment and retention, streamline organizational systems, and develop new revenue opportunities. Experience in the flute world or broader music industry is highly desirable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior involvement with the Florida Flute Association or a similar regional or national arts organization is preferred
  • Residency in Florida is preferred, as the Association’s corporate address and certain official mailings are required by law to be maintained within the state
  • Background in arts administration, music (performance or education), nonprofit management, or a related field
  • Demonstrated ability to articulate and implement a clear vision for organizational growth, including:
    • Strategies for attracting new members and retaining existing members
    • Expanding engagement across students, adult professionals, and affiliated organizations
  • Experience streamlining systems and operations, including membership management, event registration, and administrative workflows
  • Ability to identify and develop new revenue streams such as sponsorships, partnerships, grants, and fundraising initiatives
  • Familiarity with the flute community, classical music field, and music education landscape
  • Experience in the flute industry (instrument sales, manufacturing, publishing, or artist services) is a plus
  • Strong organizational, financial, and communication skills
  • Experience with database systems, websites, and digital platforms

Executive Director – Job Description

The Executive Director is the chief administrative and operations leader of a nonprofit association serving flute performers, educators, students, amateur and professional musicians, and industry partners.

Key Responsibilities

Organizational Leadership & Administration

  • Manage daily operations, communications, and official records
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit, tax, and corporate requirements
  • Serve as primary liaison to the Board and committees
  • Support meetings, reporting, and continuity

Financial Oversight

  • Administer accounts payable/receivable and financial tracking
  • Maintain records and prepare reports
  • Collaborate on budgeting and financial planning

Membership & Community Engagement

  • Oversee membership systems and renewals
  • Communicate regularly with members
  • Coordinate fundraising efforts
  • Support membership growth and retention

Digital Systems & Communications

  • Oversee website and membership platform
  • Coordinate with communications team
  • Ensure timely dissemination of information

Programs, Competitions & Publications

  • Coordinate competitions and program logistics
  • Ensure participant compliance
  • Support promotional and publication materials

Annual Convention & Event Management

  • Lead planning and coordination of annual convention
  • Liaise with venues, vendors, and artists
  • Oversee registration and operations
  • Manage financial reconciliation

Industry & Artistic Engagement

  • Build relationships with performers, educators, and partners
  • Support exhibitor coordination
  • Track industry trends

Position Details

This is a quarter-time position averaging approximately 8–10 hours per week. The workload is cyclical, with responsibilities increasing from September through January.

Compensation

The base salary is $20,000 per year, consistent with the quarter-time nature of the role. This position is classified as a regular employee, with FICA contributions shared by employee and employer.
