NEW THIS YEAR! THE NANCY CLEW ELLER ARTIST COMPETITION is open to all flutists ages 18 and older by the date of January 29th, 2021. Up to five finalists will be chosen.
AUDIO RECORDED ROUND SUBMISSION: (These requirements have been modified as of July 9, 2020)
1. Three Pieces, Mvt. III Toan-Yan by Pierre-Octave Ferroud
2. A piece of the applicant’s choice. All pieces that require accompaniment must be included with the submission, either with piano or electronic accompaniment resources.
VIRTUAL FINAL ROUND: Video Submissions – Fantasie No. 2, A minor, TWV 40:3 by G.P. Telemann (all movements including repeats).
Finalists selected to the Final Round during the 2021 Virtual Convention will prepare a 20-minute program of their own choosing (including the Telemann selection). The time limit includes any time between pieces. The 20 minutes Final Round repertoire must be submitted with the application, and performers will be bound to these repertoire selections.
The program should demonstrate diversity and a variety of styles and periods. This may include single movements of works and unaccompanied pieces. It is not necessary to perform all movements of works, but any individual movement of a work must be performed in its entirety. Cuts may be made in the accompaniment and repeats in the performer’s chosen repertoire is at the decision of the performer. Performers will play the repeats in the required Telemann selection. Selections including other chamber music repertoire will not be permitted. Single movement works composed for flute and orchestra will be permitted—please no concerti or orchestral reductions. All pieces that require accompaniment must be included with the submission, either with piano or electronic accompaniment resources.
CASH PRIZES: FIRST $1000 – SECOND $750 – THIRD $500. Finalists will present a virtual performance during the 2021 Florida Flute Virtual Convention
FEES: 2021 Membership Fee (Adult $30, Full Time Student $10), Entry Fee $50
HIGH SCHOOL YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION is open to flutists up through grade 12. The previous year’s First Place Winner is not eligible.
AUDIO RECORDED AUDITION: Concertino by Chaminade – accompaniment must be included with the submission, either with piano or electronic accompaniment resources.
CASH PRIZES: FIRST $250 – SECOND $225 – THIRD $200. Finalists will present a virtual performance during the 2021 Florida Flute Virtual Convention
FEES: 2021 Membership Fee $10, Entry Fee $25

COLLEGE YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION is open to full-time undergraduate students who are not more than twenty-five years old. The previous year’s First Place Winner is not eligible.
AUDIO RECORDED AUDITION: Sonata Undine-Movements 1 and 2 by Reinecke – accompaniment must be included with the submission, either with piano or electronic accompaniment resources.
CASH PRIZES: FIRST $400 – SECOND $350 – THIRD $300. Finalists will present a virtual performance during the 2021 Florida Flute Virtual Convention
FEES: 2021 Membership Fee $10, Entry Fee $25

ADVANCED MASTERCLASSES WITH Sharon Bezaly, International Guest Artist
Open to all professional flutists, teachers, and very advanced students. Up to six performers and two alternates will be selected.
AUDIO RECORDED AUDITION: Flute solo of your choice, up to ten minutes in length, with the complete instrumentation, which MUST be performed during the 2021 Virtual Convention
Pieces that require accompaniment must be included with the submission, either with piano or electronic accompaniment resources.
FEES: 2021 Membership Fee (Adult $30, Full Time Student $10), Entry Fee $25
HIGH SCHOOL MASTERCLASS WITH Susan McQuinn, Flute Professor at Eastern Florida State College
Up to three performers and one alternate will be chosen.
AUDIO RECORDED AUDITION: Flute solo chosen from the Florida Bandmasters Association (FBA) list, grade 5 or above with complete instrumentation. The same work MUST be performed
during the 2021 Virtual Convention. Pieces that require accompaniment must be included with the submission, either with piano or electronic accompaniment resources.
